OUR GOAL
Our primary goal is to make capoeira fun as we help each student develop both, physical and mental abilities to its fullest. In capoeira we learn from a wide range of movements as we improve coordination, agility, rhythm and awareness, become more active, more innovative and self-assured, constantly challenge our limits and learn to co-exist and function well as part of a group.
Our students are engaged and encouraged to express themselves by not just teaching them the movements but also by teaching them various musical instruments (like the berimbau, pandeiros, atabaque, ago-ago and reco-reco), songs and dances and also attending various events and seminars.
Groups are divided by age and experience where beginners are taught the fundamentals of capoeira. As the student becomes more experienced, more complex movements are introduced gradually. Understanding that each student is unique, students are given personalized attention in order to aid them in their own special capoeira journey.
BASIC RULES OF THE SCHOOL
. Wear the capoeira uniform or any comfortable sportswear.
. Attend class regularly.
. Persevere and Practice Hard. The fundamental movements of capoeira are the basis of every complex movement that follows and the only way to become better is through diligent practice.
. Come to class 10 minutes early. This allows enough time to change clothes, drink water and to greet friends
. Eat something light and drink a lot of water before class.
. Always inform the instructor in advance regarding any health concerns so the training can be altered accordingly to avoid any injuries.
. Respect the school, its training process, its masters and the fellow capoeiristas.
. Parents must encourage their children and be interested in their progress.
. Capoeira is a great opportunity to express oneself and is another wonderful opportunity for parents to see their children evolve.
. Make a conscious effort to participate in all the events. Events offer exposure to different environments and to crowds which greatly helps build the confidence of students.
. Similar to any sport or martial art, one’s greatest competition is with one’s self. Be honest with yourself and keep working on improving at your own pace.
PLAN FOR THE YEAR
We have 2 major seminars, one in March and the other in November. Participation in the seminars is a requisite for the students.
Students who are training for their belt will be tested based on their grade in the seminar in November.
Batizado, which is the ceremony for the belt, will be held in March where students who have passed the test in November will receive their belts from the mestre.
Through the course of the year, several events will be organized and attending these events is optional. However, events are an excellent opportunity to be exposed to and experience new environments, be inspired and to communicate and interact with others. It is therefore advised that students try to attend as many events as possible.
CDO Capoeira Center is a part of the largest capoeira organization “Cordao De Ouro” which is rooted deep in the heart of the ideals and philosophies of capoeira. Using innovation and the newest techniques of training, we continuously try to evolve with this fast paced world without losing the true essence of capoeira and its philosophies.
